Last post of 2006

About a year ago I mentioned to Johan, Elro and Lenneth that I had a feeling 2006 would be a year of change. I think that’s been an understatement, to say the least. I don’t know what I think of 2007, but I’m not dreading or anticipating anything in particular.

The first New Year’s Eve I spent with Johan (1996), we were at an all-night lock-down “clean teen” sort of thing; it got old after a while because participation in the group activities was mandatory, and I was tired (and unsociable, as usual.) The next year (1997), we rented a PlayStation and Final Fantasy VII for the evening, and played as far as we could get (which wasn’t terribly far, didn’t quite get out of Midgar.) New Year’s Eve 1999, we went to a champagne dinner thing (seeing as we were both freshly 21) at Lily’s Restaurant in Mt. Shasta. My parents bought me a black and white formal dress for the occasion that I really didn’t like that much (they’d misinterpreted my expression and snuck back to buy it when I wasn’t looking.)

After we were married… 2001 and 2002 I don’t remember, but 2003 we flew home to Raleigh (having spent Christmas in California) and arrived at our apartment just about midnight, and were delighted to find one pizza joint open and delivering still (turned out to be a very good discovery, indeed — we were regulars all spring.) I think last year we may have stayed up, but only because Sci-Fi Channel had a Twilight Zone marathon on.

And this year, we’ll be going to see Kazango and making merry with my father. ^^; Everyone have fun and stay safe!
