As I’ve been cleaning up Hoshichan.com’s archives (now in June 2002, woo), I’m also tinkering with other sites and doing some long-overdue maintenance. I’m upgrading Common-Space.net to the latest WordPress as we speak, having sucessfully upgraded the Redoable theme already. Common Themes uses a theme that is no longer updated, so I will be modifying a brand new theme, hopefully tomorrow, and upgrading that as well. (And then all six installs I maintain are current, huzzah!)
I’m sure other professional web designers can empathize with this: it’s so rare, so bloody rare, to have a client or visitor really truly get it, get what you’re doing, get why you did it, get why there’s value in hiring someone “professional” over having a volunteer or hobbyist maintain something. I launched the project I’ve been working on since July this week, and this morning got the following from a society member:
I just want to tell you how good the new web site looks. I am real glad that they have finally agreed to put it in the hands of someone who is able to do a professional job. Thank you for the start of a new era.
This wasn’t an officer, I didn’t recognize the name. Just some guy who really gets it. Made my day!
