A new set of habits

January 14th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Today I tried to start my work week differently — namely, by working. I’ve had a terrible first two weeks of 2008, and things desperately needed changing. I managed to work all day, with minimal unrelated surfing, email-checking, etc. I caught up on all maintenance and finished a large content rewrite I’ve been working on for days. As I’ve been so darn “good” today, I’m treating myself to a blog post. If I can manage to stick to this schedule, I should be well on my way to catching up on all pending work. (And that’s a good thing.)

The odd thing is, being productive on work has kept me very “up”, all day long. I feel great. I feel like I accomplished a ton, and if I keep it up, I’ll be in extremely good shape in a week. I carry on because work has been depressing me for months, and I’ve come to dread almost any form of paid web design. I’ve just proved to myself that I can dig myself out of this hole, with my sanity and client list intact.

Life has been challenging lately, but I feel stronger and more committed than ever to staying the course. My writing has gone slow, but I answered a very big question on my Olivine worldbuilding, and I’m eager to explore it as time allows. Lenneth and I are working more on our business idea, and hope to showcase a vague splash page and domain in the near future. Life is good!

Woo Hoo! Buckling down and finding things to love about your work is always a good thing. I hope I have a s much luck in the coming days/weeks/months, but then again I don’t rely on a client list for my paycheck.

They say to find what you love and find someone to pay you to do it. I’ve found some to pay me, now I just need to get them to let me do what I love to do.

I took what I love and got plenty of people to pay me to do it — the problem is more that, rather than still loving it, I find that I’m well on my way to ruining my favorite hobby. I’m trying to start up some new income streams this spring, which should take the pressure off site creation (what I dread worst, right now) and let my writing pull more weight. That’s the plan anyway!

For me, being productive and busy the whole day does make me feel quite energetic until the end of the day. It’s just a balance between harassment and being busy that’s a delicate balance :)
