Once my desktop was bare (still giving me starts now and again, thinking Finder has crashed), I became acutely aware of how very plain, homely and folder-like the few folders I have there are. I spent last night in an external hard drive quest for icons. My “to the external drive” folder is a Japanese iron teapot. Download folder is, appropriately, a large Katamari. Writing remains a lovely Moleskine icon, and Projects (the catch-all things-I’m-working-on folder) is a bento box/Japanese place setting icon. I also tidied said folders, moved things onto my external, deleted things from the Downloads folder (which very much resembles a large Katamari, most of the time) and fiddled with display settings.
Today, I cleaned out many of my LJ icons I was plain sick of looking at, replaced one I was sick of (old icontest loser) with a new textless version, and uploaded more from my recent Tanemura Arina batch. I finished one book last night and dove right into the next novel this morning; I think I’m fantasy-starved. It’s hard to know where to start and what to read; having twenty-four more book challenge titles to have a go at (nineteen owned) plus at least five or six more I’ve just stuck in makes the choosing difficult. I can barely get through a restaurant menu without glazing over. Too many good books sitting here. Got my nose stuck in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress yesterday at Barnes & Noble, and will be adding that and many others to my wishlist today.
The weekend was hard in ways I can’t really put into words at the moment. I feel like I’ve gotten a day off, not to diddle around as such, but to get my bearings and take a breather. It’s sorely tempting to spend the day making more icons, but I think I’ll try again to work on Olivine — my worldbuilding has been at a dead stand-still, and although I continue to put notes down, I feel… almost incapable of writing. I’m going to try again anyway, but I’m not expecting much.
