I’ve been massively sick for days, doing little but sleep, imbibe vitamin C in various forms, and read. I’m working my way through The New Space Opera, and it’s been delightful to see the old stuff transform into the new stuff, into the new-old stuff. Almost a third of the way through the anthology now; it’s a good way to get myself in the mindset needed for Selene.
In a similar vein, I took out one of my copies of Full Moon last night to riffle through the pages and soak up some lunar imagery. Almost a decade after publication, the quality of the images still astounds me — Michael Light was allowed to digitize the master negatives from the NASA Archives (the first time it’d been done) and correct/enhance for spectacular viewing. Instead of the handful of released NASA images everyone’s seen for decades, over a hundred never-before-seen views are featured here, unbelievably clear and rich. The aforementioned edition is still in print, but at almost a foot square, it’s definitely a tabletop sort of book. (A very cute eight-inch version is also available; far more portable. Though bigger is better when it comes to pretty picture books, imho.)
I’m coming to realize that my life-long talent and life-long interests were overlooked most of my life in favor of other pursuits. They were always there, but I never thought about using them for anything. For me, to think of the moon is to erupt into romantic prose; doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that I could and should be writing about it.

Good to see you finding this out! :) I think you’ll be happier when you can harmonize your interest in space and your ability in writing.

I think so, yeah. [nods] I fangirl the Moon often enough as it is, might as well fangirl on paper?
My reCAPTCHA is “modern brain”. Hmm.
